David L. Earls, Greater Ohio Chapter Emeritus Member


IEST Greater Ohio Chapter (GOH) Emeritus Member, David L. Earls, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the age of 87.

David joined IEST in 1961, was active in the Greater Ohio Chapter, and was distinguished as an IEST Fellow in 1987 for his expertise and accomplishments.

While in his 20’s, David served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict as an airman and officer. Later, he was an Air Force civil service employee, working as a physicist in the Flight Dynamics Laboratory.

David was the co-founder, along with Dr. Alan Burkhard, of the Combined Environmental Reliability Test (CERT) program, a significant improvement in Environmental Testing. David and Alan conducted extensive testing in Flight Dynamics facilities verifying the effectiveness of CERT. They, also, gave numerous briefings at IEST conferences.

David retired from Wright Patterson AFB after having worked there from 1956-85. David was also well regarded as a consultant in the National Aircraft Avionic Board Integrity Programs.
